Reducing agent
A biogenic reducing agent replacing coke in the reduction of metal oxides and in blast furnace processes.
BioBriquette manufacturer · Mełno / Port of Gdańsk
We produce biochar briquettes with repeatable, stable parameters. They reduce CO₂ emissions and the cost of carbon charges without changes to plant technology. Our own production in Mełno and a terminal at the Port of Gdańsk ensure continuity of supply.
01About us
Biotech AG is a Polish industrial company specializing in the production of high-quality BioBriquettes, a modern alternative to fossil fuels in metallurgy and thermal energy.
We operate at the intersection of industry, metallurgy and logistics. We deliver solutions tailored both to large industrial plants and to individual customers. Our production plant was established on the site of a former sugar factory in Mełno near Grudziądz, fully adapted to modern industrial production.
“We turn waste biomass into industrial value, for cleaner green steel production.”
BioBriquette production: two modernized halls of 900 and 2000 m², own railway siding, power connection for heavy industry.
Transshipment, storage, transport and logistics. The group's operational base at the Port of Gdańsk.
Road transport with our own trucks connects the plant in Mełno, the terminal at the Port of Gdańsk and our customers. Deliveries without intermediaries, with full control over schedules.
An integrated group: production, logistics and our own transport in one hand. This means independence, cost control and on-time deliveries.
02Market context
CBAM, ETS and Fit‑for‑55 are genuinely changing the cost equation for every steel mill. A biochar reducing agent is today one of the fastest ways to lower those costs, without rebuilding the installation.
elimination of CO₂ emissions attributed to the reducing agent. Biogenic carbon according to the IPCC methodology.
Additional potentialRevenue from the sale of carbon removal credits for CO₂ permanently removed from circulation.
Technology proven in industry:
up to 55% of coke replaced with BioBriquettes with stable furnace operation, a reduction of 33–40 kg CO₂ per tonne of pig iron
successful injection of torrefied biochar into the blast furnace, full compatibility with existing infrastructure
pilot and modeling studies confirming the technical feasibility of integrating biochar with metallurgical processes
Examples of market deployments of biochar technology in metallurgy.
03Product
Every batch undergoes inspection in our own on-site laboratory. You buy not a promise, but a specification.
The feedstock particle size remains constant. Only the briquette dimensions change, matched to different furnace types.
Waste plant biomass: coconut shells, palm kernels, eucalyptus. The origin of the feedstock is documented and traceable for audit purposes.
We adjust the BioBriquette parameters to the individual requirements of industrial customers: blend composition, particle size, delivery form.
The SURE (Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme) certificate confirms compliance of the biomass with EU sustainability criteria (RED II). The origin of the feedstock is fully documented and traceable.
04Applications
BioBriquettes are a versatile, renewable carbon charge for metallurgy. In a single product, they replace coke and fossil coal across many processes at once, without rebuilding the installation.
A biogenic reducing agent replacing coke in the reduction of metal oxides and in blast furnace processes.
Raises and adjusts the carbon content in steel and cast iron (recarburizing).
Foams the slag in arc furnaces: greater energy efficiency and furnace protection.
A renewable carrier of energy and heat in high-temperature processes.
A complete carbon charge for steel production in electric arc furnaces.
05Production
A modern Biotech Technologies line with a nominal capacity of 100 tonnes per hour, designed specifically for metallurgical biochar briquettes. A fully automated control system, continuous operation on two shifts, 18 experienced operators and engineers.
carefully selected, documented waste biomass
reduction of moisture to 1,5–2%
uniform charge particle size
repeatable composition of each batch
density and mechanical strength
the on-site laboratory tests every batch

06Logistics
Our own truck fleet, a railway siding at the plant and a transshipment terminal at the Port of Gdańsk give us full control over deliveries, by land and by sea. A real operational advantage, not a declaration.
